How licensing works
Rights-managed fees are calculated according to usage. Unlike a flat royalty-free fee, the price of a rights-managed licence is built from a combination of factors: the territory of distribution, the print run
or digital reach, the format and the duration of the licence, among others. The full picture can be detailed, which is exactly why the model allows for precise, fair pricing rather than a one-size-fits-all fee.
Our online calculator walks you through the relevant parameters and generates a quote based on your specific project. Your account manager will follow up directly with any clarifications or options.
If your company has an existing licensing agreement with Arcangel, you'll see your agreed pricing reflected automatically when you log in, rather than the standard calculator rates.
Exclusive and non-exclusive licenses
Rights-managed licensing also gives you a choice that royalty-free simply doesn't offer: exclusivity.
An exclusive licence guarantees that the image won't be licensed to another client within the same territory and industry for the duration of your licence. For a publisher releasing a high-profile title,
that assurance has real value.
A non-exclusive rights-managed licence still defines usage precisely and still carries the quality and curation standards of the Arcangel collection, but without the exclusivity premium. In many cases,
a non-exclusive rights-managed licence will come in at a lower cost than a comparable royalty-free image, while giving you significantly more control over how the image is used.
Your account manager
Every client at Arcangel works with a dedicated account manager. They're not just a point of contact for licensing paperwork. They're there for everything: liase with the search team, talking through a brief,
answering questions about the collection, explaining licensing options or simply helping you find the right image for a difficult project. Whatever you need, they're the person you call.
Over time your account manager builds a genuine working knowledge of your preferences, your projects and the way you like to work, which makes every conversation faster and every brief more focused.
